London‑based advisory firm BKL has acquired specialist music accountancy boutique Dales Evans, a move that underscores growing private‑equity interest in niche services that Canadian firms are watching.
The deal follows BKL's fifth acquisition since receiving backing from private‑equity firm CBPE in 2023 and builds on a 2024 merger with another music‑focused boutique, Alan Heywood. BKL, which provides tax, accounting and business advisory services, already serves a roster of multi‑platinum recording artists, touring musicians, independent labels and managers.
According to Tim Gazzard, BKL's partner for music, media and sport, the purchase adds "strong, genuine relationships" and deep sector expertise to the firm's portfolio. He said Dales Evans' clients will retain their personalised service while gaining access to BKL's broader resources and technical depth.
Chief executive Lee Brook said the acquisition "strengthens our capability to deliver high‑quality trusted advice" to clients in the music, media and entertainment space. He noted that the firm's strategy of recruiting former Big Four partners and expanding its specialist footprint is attracting top talent.
For Canadian accounting and advisory firms, the transaction signals a trend toward consolidation in the entertainment sector, where private capital is seeking to bundle specialised expertise with broader advisory platforms. Observers suggest that similar moves could reshape how Canadian music‑industry clients receive tax and accounting services.
